Recently, the Board of Supervisors (BOS) monument and the surrounding historic sculptures at the County Government Center were vandalized, resulting in the theft of several brass plaques. This damage has not only led to the loss of valuable materials but has also impacted the community’s sense of heritage and pride.
In response to this unfortunate event, the Facilities Project Management Team organized a series of collaborative meetings to address the situation. They conducted an extensive search for skilled artisans who could restore the monuments to their original splendor. As a result, a team of experts were as engaged to ensure that the restoration would preserve the integrity and craftsmanship of the original pieces.
Key restoration efforts included the installation of new granite plaques and arrowheads at the BOS monument, replacing the stolen brass plaques. Additionally, new granite address numbers were added to the base of the monument to improve the visibility of the Government Center’s address for visitors. The entire monument also received a fresh update with black lettering, making the building’s name more legible and prominent from a distance.
The historic Wings of Eagles sculpture, a cherished symbol of the County’s history, was meticulously cleaned and expertly repaired. This careful work has restored the sculpture’s original beauty while addressing the wear and tear it had experienced over time.
