San Bernardino County

The December 2 Memorial Project (Curtain of Courage Memorial) was created to honor those who were taken during the terrorist attack on December 2, 2015.

The Curtain of Courage Memorial was designed by Walter Hood, a world-renowned artist who collaborated with the County December 2 Memorial Committee, which consisted of First Responders, County employees, survivors, and the families of those who were taken.

The Curtain of Courage Memorial consists of 14 individual bronze-colored alcoves shaped like protective curtains along the Government Center’s east promenade.

The families of the victims selected the color of glass for each alcove and personalized the phrase on each concrete bench inside each of the alcoves.

The Curtain of Courage Memorial is special to the County and the community whom we serve because this artwork permanently honors and celebrates the innocent lives who were taken too soon.
